The Cruze is a fantastic success. In the past, Chevy distinguished itself in this segment with larger engines. This time, they went with a competitive fuel-efficient engine and then spent the additional resources on the handling of the vehicle, the materials and the quality of the design, inside and out.

The standard Cruze LS comes with a 1.8L inline-4 that outputs 136 HP and 123 foot pounds of torque. The Eco, LT and LTZ include an upgrade to the turbocharged version of that engine. The turbo makes 138 HP and 148 foot pounds. In terms of fuel efficiency, there’s not much difference between the two: 26 MPG in the city and 36 on the highway. However, the Eco manages 28 in the city and 42 on the highway.

The LS boasts an amazing standard package at this price point: OnStar, air-conditioning, 16-inch steel wheels, full power accessories, trip computer, satellite radio and a 6-speaker CD/MP3 audio system.

The upgrade comprises two tiers. The 1LT default has the turbocharged engine, chrome wheel covers, special floor mats and a one-touch driver’s window. The 2LT upgrade includes alloy wheels, cruise control, remote start, leather upholstery, Bluetooth and a USB/iPod port.
